WHAT IS DIAMOND CUTTING

Diamond cutting, also known as diamond turning, is the process used to create the bright, machined face you see on diamond cut alloy wheels.
The wheel is placed onto a specialist CNC lathe and a diamond-tipped tool carefully removes a very fine layer from the front face.

This removes surface damage and reveals the bright aluminium underneath, leaving the fine machining lines that give diamond cut wheels their distinctive appearance.

The painted areas of the wheel remain, creating the two-tone finish that makes diamond cut alloys easy to recognise.

Who This Is For

Diamond cutting is for wheels that already have a diamond cut face and need their original appearance restoring. It may be suitable if:

Our team in Tamworth uses specialist equipment, high-quality materials and a detailed refurbishment process to achieve a finish we’re proud to put our name to.

What Happens to Your Wheels?

Getting your diamond cut wheels refurbished might sound complicated, but for you, the process is simple.

We take care of everything from removing the tyres and repairing the damage through to refinishing, diamond cutting and refitting your wheels.

01

We Inspect Your Wheels

Before we start, we inspect each wheel for damage such as kerb marks, corrosion, cracks or buckles.

This allows us to check that the wheel is suitable for refurbishment and identify anything that may need extra attention.

We’ll let you know if we find anything you need to be aware of.

02

We Remove the Old Finish

The old paint and lacquer are completely removed from the wheel.

Rather than simply covering over the existing finish, this gives us a clean surface to work from and prepares the wheel for its new finish.

03

We Repair the Damage

Kerb marks, scuffs and other surface damage are repaired and smoothed out.

If we discover a crack or buckle that requires additional repair, we’ll discuss this with you before carrying out any extra work.

04

We Prepare the Surface

We thoroughly clean and prepare the wheel, removing corrosion and anything that could affect the new finish.

Good preparation is one of the most important parts of achieving a finish that looks right and lasts.

05

We Prepare the Wheel for Coating

The wheel is heated before the new coating is applied. This helps remove trapped gases from the aluminium that could otherwise cause problems with the finished surface.

It’s one of the extra preparation steps we take to get the finish right.

06

We Apply the Powder Primer

We apply a durable powder coating to create the base for the finished wheel.

The wheel is then heated so the coating cures into a strong, smooth finish.

07

We Apply the Wheel Colour

Next, we apply the chosen colour to the wheel.

This could be the original factory-style colour or a different colour if you’re looking to change the appearance of your wheels.

08

We Diamond Cut the Wheel

This is where the distinctive diamond cut finish is recreated.

Your wheel is placed onto our specialist Micro24 CNC lathe, which carefully machines a very fine layer from the front face of the wheel.

This removes surface damage from the machined face and reveals the bright aluminium underneath, recreating the fine lines associated with a diamond cut finish.

The painted areas remain, creating the wheel’s distinctive two-tone appearance.

09

We Apply the Protective Clear Coat

A clear powder coating is applied over the finished wheel to protect the surface and complete the look.

You can choose from gloss, satin or matt finishes depending on the appearance you want.

11

We Refit and Balance Your Wheel

Finally, we refit the tyre, inflate it to the correct pressure and balance the wheel.

If we’re working on your vehicle, we’ll refit the wheel and tighten the wheel nuts to the correct setting.

12

The Result

Your wheels leave us fully refurbished, with the damage repaired, the colour restored and the distinctive diamond cut face recreated.

The result is a clean, fresh finish that brings your wheels back to looking their best and transforms the overall appearance of your car.

Excellent service and communication throughout. Brian is very friendly, knowledgeable and professional, absolute top bloke. My BMW wheels were all curbed so needed a good refurb in factory BMW orbit grey. Brian has every factory colour going so finding a match was easy. He carried out a professional refurb on the wheels which takes 2 full days to complete, not the quick same day or 24hr turnaround offered by other wheel refurbers in Tamworth. The car was also safely secured during the few days he had it. Really happy with the wheels, they look like they’ve just come out the BMW factory. I’ve used a few wheel refurbishment companies in Tamworth over the years but these are definitely the best, I won’t use anyone else in future. Thanks Brian 👍🏼

Absolutely over the moon with the refurb Bryan at DCA did on my OEM 437M wheels. From start to finish the service was spot on. Very friendly guy, excellent workmanship, great comms throughout and you can tell he genuinely cares about the quality of his work. I went for the ferric grey and diamond cut finish and the wheels have come out looking absolutely stunning — better than I expected. The finish is clean, consistent and OEM+ quality. Bryan also took the time to explain the process properly and kept me updated throughout, which gave me a lot of confidence after previous bad experiences elsewhere. Turnaround was quick, attention to detail was excellent and the overall experience was professional from start to finish. Highly recommend DCA if you want your wheels done properly by someone who takes pride in their work.

I couldn’t be happier with the transformation that Bryan has achieved with my Audi A7 wheels. They were 11 years old, curb rashed, paint peeling and generally looking very sad. Now they’re absolutely mint plus the colour transition from standard grey to satin black makes them pop - just gotta get some new black centre caps to match now. I’m really happy with them, massive thanks to DCA Refinishing Ltd for a grand job 👍👍

FAQs

How do I know if my wheels are diamond cut?

Diamond cut wheels usually have a bright, shiny metal face with fine lines visible in good light. The inner areas are often painted a darker colour.

Yes, in many cases they can. However, diamond cutting removes a very fine layer of aluminium from the face of the wheel each time, so there is a limit to how many times a wheel can be safely machined. We’ll inspect your wheel first and let you know whether it’s suitable for another diamond cut.

We can recreate tinted and smoked diamond cut finishes, but an exact match to an untouched wheel can’t always be guaranteed. The tint is carefully built up during the refinishing process, and the final shade can vary depending on the original finish. If matching is particularly important, we may recommend having two wheels refurbished together for a more consistent result.

Diamond cut faces are bare aluminium under lacquer. Sealing helps protect them, but care matters too. We’ll tell you how to look after the finish.

Same day service is available on some jobs. We’ll confirm turnaround once we’ve seen photos and wheel condition.
